Asantehene marks 25th anniversary with a colourful durbar at Manhyia Palace as the Golden stool is put on display
To mark the 25th year of the Asantehene’s rule on the Golden Stool, a big Akwasidae ritual is held.
The Manhyia Palace hosted this auspicious occasion.
Notable individuals in attendance included the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the former Minister for Food and Agriculture, and other dignitaries.
Prominent figures attending the great Akwasidae festival at the Manhyia Palace include Ga Mantse and President AKufo Addo.
This magnificent occasion, which takes place on Sunday, May 12, 2024, commemorates the Asantehene’s 25-year possession of the Golden Stool.
The Ashanti word “Akwasidae” means “the day of the sacred stool” in local dialect. For the Ashanti people, the sacred stool is extremely important since it represents their community’s resilience and togetherness. The stool is prominently displayed during the event, eliciting respect and homage from all attendees.
