Damage ECG pylon will cost Ghana a whopping $1.2 million USD

The Ashanti Regional Security Council (AREGSEC) has paid a working visit to Ejisu where pylons belonging to Electricity Company of Ghana had been attacked.

Led by Simon Osei-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, the team observed the extent of damage that has been caused by unknown miscreants.

Addressing the media at the site, Osei-Mensah indicated to the media that AREGSEC heard about the attack on the ECG pylons and decided to visit the site to appreciate the extent of damage.

He disclosed that destruction will cost Ghana a whooping $1.2 million USD.

He disclosed to the media that bolts and nuts which weilds the pylons had been removed by unknown people.

He expressed worry about the extent of destruction the development is going to have on the already challenging power supplying in the region.

Osei-Mensah, however, expressed hope that power would be restored to the affected areas.

The Ashanti Regional Minister urged the public to report suspicious people to the police since what has happened is unfortunate.

Engineer Collins Manu, Deputy Communications Officer for ECG, disclosed to the media that eight pylons which carries electricity voltage of 33kg had been destroyed, affecting power supply to areas such as Manso, Kumawu, Jacobu among others.

Nevertheless, Manu told the media that they have managed to redirect the lines so majority of the affected areas.

Asked about the areas that the lines serves, ING Collins Manu noted that the attacked lines connects between the Anwomaso sub-station and Akyawkrom.

Ashanti Regional Security Council (AREGSEC) visited Akwatialine slum, to appreciate the extent of insecurity, health and environmental challenges bedeviling the place.

Samuel Pyne, the mayor of Kumasi, disclosed to the media that the visit aims to have a first hand information about how the place and how to develop the enclave since it is found an urban area.

According to him, activities carried out at the slum has seen the assembly spending not less than GHC 30,000 cedis a month to desist a storm drain, which lies close by, a development which is he noted is draining the assembly.

Asked about how the development would be carried out, Pyne, responded that expects from the KMA would be deploy to have a look at how the planning of the area will be.
