‘Don’t Come Back to South Africa’: Angry Fans Tell Nwabali After AFCON Heroics

Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has received threats not to return to South Africa by angry supporters after playing a key role in Bafana Bafana’s exit at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old goalie, who plays for South African club Chippa United, saved two penalties as Nigeria defeated South Africa 4-2 via shootouts to progress to the finals of the competition in the Ivory Coast.

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Idah Peterside, who is presently based in South Africa, disclosed the news in an interview with Channels Television in the aftermath of the semi-final clash.

Chippa United had thrown their support to Nwabali and the Super Eagles before the game against South Africa, a move that sparked outrage among some angry supporters of Bafana Bafana, GOAL reports.

Meanwhile, Stanley Nwabali’s agent, Mohammed Lawal, has hinted at a big move for the Super Eagles goalkeeper following his impressive display at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Daily reports.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper is in the running for the goalkeeper of the tournament award after conceding just twice in six matches for Nigeria in their run to the final.
