“As the captain of the squad, I take full responsibility for what happened” – Dede Ayew apologizes on behalf of Black Stars players

Andre “Dede” Ayew, the captain of the Black Stars, has expressed his sincere regret to Ghanaians for their dismal showing at the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

The Le Havre player said that he accepts full responsibility for the team’s poor performance at the competition because he is the captain.

The squad would recover, Dede Ayew declared in a video apology that was posted on his social media accounts.

“As the captain of the squad, I take full responsibility for what happened on the pitch for the playing body,” he said.

“In Football, these are things that happen. These are things that make you stronger. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger individually and collectively.”

Ghana came in third amongst Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique in their group, missing out on a spot in the Round of 16.

Following a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde, the Black Stars drew 2-2 with Egypt and Mozambique to ensure Ghana’s elimination from the competition.
