Genius Jose Mourinho labeled as Mohammed Ali of Football managers
Simon Jordan has labelled Jose Mourinho the ‘Muhammad Ali of football management’.
Mourinho is undoubtedly one of the greatest managers of his era, having won league titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain.
He is also a two-time Champions League winner and is the only manager to have lifted all three European trophies from the top level to Europa League and Europa Conference League.
Former Cyrstal Palace owner, and talkSPORT host, Jordan thinks he is unique when it comes to managers.
He said: “His stock in trade has been to go in a room and say ‘I’m not one from the bottle, I’m the Special One’. Then he antagonised everybody by delivering precisely what he said he was going to deliver, which was unheard of at the time.
“He was the Muhammed Ali of football management. He walked into a room and told everybody what he was going to do, told everybody he was the greatest thing and went about to prove that point.”
Jordan continued: “Always with great genius and great personality… look at the great people we’ve had in our times.
“I’m not suggesting you compare Mourinho to Alex Higgins or George Best, because of the problems they’ve had in their lives, but they were also personalities who were erratic, but were steeped in genius.
“With that comes the other side of it, I personally think that Mourinho is one of the greatest managers we’ve ever seen. I really do.
“I think he’s a great, great manager. Great managers win leagues.
“I don’t think he can win the league with Roma. They’ve lost one game and dropped them down from fourth to eighth. It’s so close, they win a game and they go up to fourth.
“But Jose Mourinho, without a shadow of a doubt, in the era of rock’n’roll football, which is from the 2000s, is right at the top of the tree.”
Mourinho is at his ninth different club as manager, with 26 trophies to show for his time in dugouts.
