Mohammed Salisu makes injury return, set to be in Ghana’s AFCON squad

Following months of being sidelined through injury, Ghanaian international Mohammed Salisu has made an impressive comeback to the field. He was named in the AS Monaco squad for Friday’s Ligue 1 matchup against Paris St. Germain.

With the team’s recent troubles with several injuries, this is considered as a major boost for the Black Stars as they get ready for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Salisu, a former defender for Southampton, has been out for several months due to injury, but he is healthy enough to play for Monaco against PSG in Ligue 1.

After twelve games, Monaco is presently three points behind leaders PSG in Ligue 1.

For Ghana, which has struggled with injuries in the run-up to the 2023 AFCON, the defender’s return is especially important. Salisu, who missed all of Ghana’s games in 2023, returns to the team at a pivotal moment.

Other injured players are also recovering, including Daniel Amartey and Alexander Djiku, who are both stationed in Turkey.

In addition, Tariq Lamptey has healed and is returning to training with Brighton and Hove Albion, which adds more defensive alternatives to Ghana’s lineup and gives optimism for a stronger defense that has struggled against opponents recently.
