Sports presenter dies after alleged suicide in cell, family suspects police killed him – Details
Police at the Mankessim Jedu Divisional Police Command in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region are accused of killing a 29-year-old young sports journalist who also works as a taxi driver.
The deceased was found dead with a rope tied around his neck hours after he was arrested.
According to Nana Tawiah of Kessben FM, the young sports journalist who worked at Coastal FM and also a taxi driver was stopped by the police while en route but refused to stop. The following day, police saw him and pursued him on their motorcycle before apprehending him.
He was subsequently taken to the cell of the Mankessim Jedu Divisional Police, which he called the owner of his car.
The car owner went home to bring money to settle the issue after the matter was settled and he agreed to pay whatever fees the police were requesting. The car owner received a car from the police after learning that the suspect had hanged himself with a rope inside a jail cell.
According to the report, the body had already been transported by the police to the mortuary at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital before the car owner returned to the police station.
The deceased’s family have threatened to curse the police officers for allegedly strangling their son and killing him and deliberately placing a rope around his neck.
The dead’s body was placed in the mortuary of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital by the police pending an autopsy, but the family of the deceased has objected to the autopsy.
