'Clean-up' of voters register begins

The Electoral Commission will from today, October 24, to Thursday, October 30 make the voters register available to the public as part of an exercise to clean up the register.
The exercise is being conducted at all polling stations throughout the country in accordance with Regulation 22 (1) of the Public Elections (Registration of voters) Regulations 2012, C. I. 72.
The exhibition starts at 7:00am and closes at 6:00pm each day of the revision period, including Saturday and Sunday.
The exercise is an opportunity for all registered voters, including those who registered in 2012 and 2014 to check their names and details.
All those registered may ask for correction of wrong data. Names and particulars of people who genuinely registered have been omitted may also be included as part of the exercise.
The exhibition is also an opportunity to clean the register by taking off the names of unqualified people, such as minors and non-citizens, from the register; as well as removing the names of dead people.
Only those who appear in person can ask for correction of wrong data or inclusion of their names where they have been omitted. The public have been advised by the Electoral Commission to take their voter ID cards to facilitate easy checking of their names.
