Converting The National Cathedral To Other Use Is Unethical – Most Rev. Boafo
The presiding Bishop of the Methodist church and the immediate past chairman of the Christian council, most reverend Dr. Paul kwabena Boafo has stated that, the focus or motive behind the establishment of the national cathedral is to enable Christians have a common place of worship like that of the national mosque where Muslims gather to worship Allah, hence unethical to convert the cathedral to universities, hospitals or whatsoever.
The national cathedral project which is currently on hold due to economic crisis has sparked reactions and controversies in the country and the world as a whole hence some stakeholders has urged the Nana Addo government to convert the cathedral into a Ga state university, hospitals, job creating centers etc. Which according to them, it will enable the country to acquire more revenue and help boost the current economic challenges the country currently faces.
Reacting to this, most Reverend Kwabena Boafo says understanding the economic crisis in the country does not justify the suggestions made by these people on the cathedral. Explaining further, he mentioned that, the major reason why the cathedral is on hold is due to financial problems.
‘’If we are to convert the cathedral into universities, hospitals etc, isn’t it the same monies that will be used to accomplish this, why not use the same money to finish the project? Let’s not change the focus of establishing the cathedral to something else due to the economic crisis’’ he said.
Speaking exclusively to Kessben news reporter Eunice Afoley, the Presiding Bishop, Most Reverend Paul Kwabena Boafo emphatically said that the, cathedral is a place for worship hence should be maintained as such.
Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo also used the opportunity to advice the press to adhere to the ethics of journalism as they celebrate world press freedom day. He also urged the government not to suppress the press and allow them to work without any form of interference.
