Desmond Elliot wins Surulere constituency with over 10,000 votes

Nollywood actor cum politician, Desmond Elliot has won the Surulere constituency 1 assembly seat in Lagos.

The governorship and assembly elections were conducted nationwide on Saturday, March 18 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Surulere constituency I seat was one of those keenly contested. The leading candidates were those of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and that of the Labour Party (LP).

After final collation of results, Elliot came tops with 17,877 votes while candidate of the Labour Party came second with 7,822 votes.

After his election, he has promised to give his best to the people of the Surulere constituency at the Lagos state house of assembly.

Elliot’s pledge came after he won his reelection bid .

Celebrating his win via Instagram, Elliot also appreciated his political rivals for “the youthful zest you put into the campaign.”

The lawmaker said he is open to rubbing minds with them on making the constituency a better place.

“Thank you Surulere, I commend the worthy effort given by other candidates in other parties: Hon Thompson (PDP) Mr Olumide Owuro (LP) Mr Bode Adetayo (LP),” he wrote.

“I’m glad for the youthful zest you put into the campaign. Please I am more than willing to work with you and share ideas on how to make our dear constituency a better place.

“I pledge to give my utmost best at giving succor and relief to my constituents to the best of my Legislative ability.

“Thank you Thank you Thank you Suru wa a lere o.”

In September 2014, the movie star declared his intention to run for Lagos state house of assembly under the APC.

He contested and won the Surulere constituency in the April 11, 2015 elections.

Elliot’s nomination by APC for a second term came unopposed as well as the third.
