AR/ Stranded Prepaid Customers: ” we have no other choice but to also do illegal connection to get electricity”

For over a week now some ECG prepaid customers in the Ashanti Region and some of the other parts of the country have not been able to purchase prepaid credit.

The Electricity Company of Ghana said they had a technical challenge which affected its prepaid metering systems.

Due to the challenge, many customers across the nation have lacked electricity for the past 7 days.

ECG on Sunday 2nd October 2022 released a press statement noting that the challenge had been resolved.

Many customers thronged to ECG vendor centres to purchase credit but barely after 28 hours after the announcement, the system went down again as many of the customers were left stranded at the various vending centres.

A hairdresser speaking on Kessben TV said for over one week now she has not been able to go to work because she does not have electricity at home and work.

According to some of the stranded customers, they are now left with no option but to engage in illegal connections to have electricity.
