Peduase To Koforidua Road To Be Dualised- Regional Minister
The Peduase to Koforidua stretch of the road in the Eastern region is on the radar for dualisation by government very soon.
This was made known to the Press at the minister’s briefing in Accra by the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon Seth Kwame Akyeampong . He stressed that plans are far advanced to undertake that project to open up the region for investment and tourism.
Giving account of the region’s share of year of roads, he posited that the region has about 7400 kilometers of road network but by 2016 less than 260 kilometers had asphalt overlay .
From 2017 up to today the region under the current administration has over 570 kilometers asphaltic overlay.
This government has awarded road contracts of 5400 kilometers to be tackled and as at now, 1487 kilometers have been completed for use. These comprise 206 Urban ,3860 feeder ,595 Highway roads duly completed .
The minister indicated that when their government assumed power there was only 260 kilometers motorable asphaltic roads in the region but right now this has given way to massive improvement in the region with over 100 work in asphalt overlay .
He enumerated several town roads that have been completed. Akwatia, Kyebi, Mpraeso, Akim Oda, Obomeng, Akropong ,Asamankese, Nsawm, Begoro, Koforidua/ Effiduase, Nkawkakw ,etc. He made mention of several road projects underway as well as many of them being upgraded in various towns and villages.
He assured the region that the undone roads have not been abandoned and will be considered as soon as funds are made available . He stressed that the region is big and has more roads to be constructed but unavailability of of financial muscle has slowed down their construction.
The minister spoke about other areas like Health, Education, Agriculture and Tourism . He pictorially displayed some the project completed, underway, on the drawing board . He praised the president for doing his best under the current global Economic crunch .
He asked his region to support the government to fix their problems for them. As he put it, he cannot solve all the problems at a go but he and his government will do their best to solve many of the challenges facing the region.
