Vermaelen close to Barcelona transfer

Thomas Vermaelen is close to sealing a move to Barcelona after Arsenal accepted a £10.3million offer for their captain.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger admitted yesterday that Vermaelen was on the brink of departing the Emirates Stadium after dropping down the pecking order.
And after Arsenal rejected a £15million bid from Manchester United for the player, reports say an agreement has now been reached with Barca.
Spanish journalist Txiki Forero wrote on Twitter that the transfer is close to being done for £10.3million (€13million) and that United were still pushing for 28-year-old right up until the last minute.
Arsenal were not interested in selling Vermaelen to another Premier League team, especially an old rival like United.
The club will now step up their hunt for a replacement with Daniel Agger and Matija Nastasic among the players linked.
