Ghana’s Burkina Faso and Togo borders safe – Police
The Upper East Regional Police Command has assured that despite the terror attack in Ghana’s neighbouring countries, Togo and Burkina Faso, its borders with these countries are safe.
The Command says the Region shares borders with Burkina Faso and Togo and all these borders are being monitored keenly to avert any possible terror attack.
The assurance following the terrorist attacks in these countries and the arrest of a suspected illegal arms dealer in Bolgatanga.
The suspect, Clifford Dinka, is said to be the one who has been selling arms to help fuel the protracted Bawku conflict.
He was arrested on the Tamale-Bolgatanga highway while he was in the process of selling arms to one of his customers, the police said.
According to the Police, a combined motorbike and vehicle patrol teams monitored and apprehended the suspect.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Upper East Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), David Fianko-Okyere told 3FM’s Sunrise on Monday hosted by Alfred Ocansey that “once it was arms, we suspect there are more others involve so we are investigating the issue”.
“Investigation is ongoing and we hope to uncover more suspects and we ask the general public and citizens of Bawku to help with information”.
ASP FIanko-Okyere explained that “they [suspected arms dealers] normally don’t operate in open source”.
“If anybody has information, they should help us because it will not be out of place to say some of these sophisticated weapons are used in Bawku”.
Mr Fianko-Okyere said “we are all working with the Burkina Faso authorities to ensure security around the border”“We have embarked on serious public education along the borders and are rest assured that the borders are safe”.
ASP FIanko-Okyere explained that “the fact that the alert has come does not mean our borders are not safe”.
