Police announce temporary road closures around Baba Yara stadium ahead of NPP delegates’ conference

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced temporary road closures around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 3, 2026, as preparations continue for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Delegates Conference and Elections.

According to the Police, the measure is aimed at protecting the public, managing traffic effectively and maintaining security throughout the event.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, the Command identified three routes that will be closed to vehicular traffic.

The affected routes are the stretch from Bridginia Traffic Lights to Carvery Methodist Church; Unity Oil Fuel Station to T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School; and Is My Kitchen Restaurant to Bridginia Traffic Lights.

To minimise congestion, the Police have also announced alternative routes for motorists and commercial vehicles.

Commercial vehicles from Amakom will continue towards Asokwa, while vehicles approaching from Asafo will be diverted at Bridginia Traffic Lights towards either Asokwa or the Amakom Traffic Lights.

Commercial vehicles travelling from LLL towards T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School will also be directed straight to the Amakom Traffic Lights.

Vehicles travelling from Kumasi City Mall towards Afful Nkwanta Junction will be diverted through Bulldog Restaurant, while motorists from Afful Nkwanta will proceed towards Kumasi City Mall.

The Police Command has further outlined specific parking arrangements for vehicles attending the conference.

The VVIP Car Park will be reserved for vehicles belonging to former presidents and the NPP presidential candidate. Regional delegates arriving by bus and national party executives will park at Heroes Park, while official Police vehicles will use the Hockey Pitch.

The Command stressed that all delegates and vehicles attending the conference must be duly accredited. Only accredited delegates and vehicles will be permitted to access designated areas and parking facilities.

Motorists have therefore been directed to display their accreditation prominently and comply with instructions from Police officers deployed to manage the event.

The Police have appealed to the public and motorists to cooperate with officers and adhere to the designated traffic arrangements to ensure a safe and orderly conference.
