Puma Energy Ghana Partners Five Local Distributors To Accelerate Government’s 50% LPG Target

Puma Energy to Triple Cylinder Fleet With 40,000 New Cylinders, Targets 300,000 Cylinders To Serve 30,000 Communities

Puma Energy Ghana has announced a major partnership with five wholly Ghanaian-owned LPG distributors to accelerate Government’s goal of achieving 50% LPG penetration by 2030 under the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM).

The partnership was formalised in Accra on Sunday, September 28, 2026, with Earth Energy, Sandhill Oil and Gas, Riet Company Ltd, Hamcom and StepGas Ltd.

The new alliance seeks to move LPG distribution away from traditional fuel stations to a more decentralised, neighbourhood-oriented retail network that delivers clean cooking solutions directly to households, especially in peri-urban and rural areas.

At the centre of the initiative is Puma Energy’s “3y3 Good Exchange” initiative, which allows customers to exchange old cylinders for new, safe and NPA-approved cylinders at no cost.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, General Manager of Puma Energy Ghana, Lanzeni Coulibaly said:

<span;>> “We are introducing a new distribution philosophy today, bringing safe and affordable energy closer to Ghanaians. This initiative marks a significant step forward and we are leveraging our capabilities to support the government’s goal of achieving 50% LPG penetration by 2030.”

<span;>> “Clean cooking should be accessible to all families. Through this partnership, we are making it easier for households to obtain safer, cleaner LPG while assisting local distributors in expanding responsibly and serving more communities.”

Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, who witnessed the signing, stressed the need for strong regulator-industry collaboration to grow the economy and deepen safety under the CRM, where consumers exchange empty cylinders for pre-filled, safety-verified cylinders.

The health imperative is clear. According to the Air Quality Life Index (AQLI) 2025 report, poor air quality reduces the average Ghanaian’s life expectancy by nearly 0.8 years. Household air pollution from solid fuels disproportionately affects women and children.

Massive Cylinder Expansion

Puma Energy Ghana also announced an ambitious growth plan. From July to September 2026 alone, over 40,000 new NPA-compliant cylinders will be introduced, nearly tripling its initial capacity of 24,000 cylinders.

This forms part of a multi-million-dollar investment to scale the fleet to 300,000 cylinders within the next two years, which will serve 30,000 local communities nationwide.

The five distributors expressed commitment to the model:

Torgbigah Adamah III (StepGas Ltd.): “For years, we have observed LPG distribution from the sidelines. Today, Puma Energy has equipped us, as Ghanaian entrepreneurs, with the resources, cylinders, and technology to take the lead. We are ready to bring safe gas to every neighbourhood in Accra.”

Godwin Tamakloe (Riet Company Limited): “For us, this partnership is about building confidence and ensuring that we deliver a safe and reliable service to our customers. This is not merely a business venture; it is about contributing to the safety and wellbeing of our communities.”

Ben Berko (Earth Energy): “This structure is innovative because Puma handles the significant capital investment while we contribute local knowledge. This is how national policy is effectively advanced.”

Hamidu Mohammed (Hamcom 8 Ltd. – Kumasi): “In Kumasi, the demand for clean cooking is substantial. With Puma’s commitment to increasing cylinder availability, we anticipate fewer shortages. This will create jobs and bring gas closer to the families who need it most.”

Abdulrazak Ibrahim (Sandhill Oil and Gas): “With Puma Energy’s technical and logistical assistance, we can extend safe LPG access to more communities and help more families transition away from polluting fuels.”

<span;>> “Energy security and safety must be intrinsically linked. By collaborating with these five distributors, we are contributing to a more robust LPG value chain,” Coulibaly concluded. “This reflects Puma Energy’s purpose of Energising Communities.”
