Minority demands real-time data on narcotics seizures

The Minority in Parliament has urged the government to publish real-time and verifiable data on all narcotics seizures, arrests and prosecutions recorded since January 2025.

Addressing a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, September 29, the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, said the data must be drawn from primary sources and made publicly accessible.

He said this would allow Ghanaians to independently assess the government’s record in combating the narcotics trade.

“We call on the Executive to publish in real time with primary sourcing full and verifiable data on every narcotics seizure, arrests and prosecutions since January 2025,” the Minority said.

According to the Minority, greater transparency would reduce the need for Ghanaians to depend on information from foreign customs authorities to assess the state of narcotics trafficking and border security.

“If the government is confident in its record and has nothing to fear from the truth, if it is not, the people of Ghana deserve to know why,” the Minority said.

The Minority said it would continue to pursue the matter in Parliament and ensure that its demand for greater transparency is followed through.

“We would be in the Chamber and we intend to see this through,” it added.

The Minority further stated that “history will judge this Parliament by what it does today.”
