‘I had hopes for public service, but everything we assembled was brought down’ – Joe Wise
Former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, popularly known as Joe Wise, has expressed disappointment over what he says has happened to reforms he helped establish during his time in public service.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Mr Osei-Owusu said he entered public service with high expectations but became disappointed after leaving office.
“I had hopes when I was entering into public service, but after I left, all that we assembled was brought down,” he said.
He questioned the current emphasis of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), suggesting that discussions about road safety and responsible driving had been overshadowed by the issuance of driving licences.
“Who is now talking about safety at DVLA? All they are talking about is giving new licences,” he added.
Joe Wise previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA before entering Parliament. During his tenure, he was associated with efforts to improve the authority’s operations and strengthen driver licensing and road-safety measures.
