President Mahama to host high-level Accra Reset event in New York

President John Dramani Mahama is set to host a high-level side event on the Accra Reset in New York today, bringing together global leaders, health development advocates and international partner institutions to assess progress and renew commitments one year after the initiative was launched.

The high-level meeting, being held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, is expected to provide a platform for discussions on the future of global health cooperation, development financing and international partnerships.

As part of the event, President Mahama is expected to launch a report prepared by a high-level panel established by the Accra Reset Presidential Council.

The gathering will feature contributions from prominent world leaders and former heads of state, including Kenyan President William Ruto, Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and former Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla.

Representatives of major international institutions and groupings, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), Group of 77 (G77), Commonwealth and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), are also expected to participate.

Delegates from China, France and the United Kingdom, as well as Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote, will also contribute to the discussions.

The Accra Reset was launched in New York a year ago as part of efforts to advance a new approach to global development cooperation and address challenges affecting health and development financing.

The event is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (8:00 p.m. Ghana time) and will be broadcast live.
