Ghana’s GH¢49.7m cost to evacuate 1,964 citizens from South Africa is too much and fishy – Maxwell Ofosu Boakye
Former Suame Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, has questioned the reported GH¢49.7 million cost of evacuating 1,964 Ghanaians from South Africa.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Mr Ofosu Boakye described the amount as excessive and “fishy,” suggesting that the reported expenditure raises questions about how the evacuation funds are being used.
According to him, the government must provide clear explanations and details on the expenses involved in the exercise to assure the public that the money is being spent appropriately.
The former Suame MCE’s comments come amid public discussions over government expenditure and the cost of repatriating Ghanaian citizens from abroad.
He called for greater transparency and accountability regarding the reported GH¢49.7 million expenditure, stressing the need for the relevant authorities to explain the basis for the amount.
