Roberto De Zerbi Hints at More Tottenham Signings After £237m Summer Spending
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has revealed that the club’s busy summer transfer business is far from over, despite already investing around £237 million on new players.
The Italian coach says Spurs have completed only part of their recruitment plans and remain determined to strengthen the squad further before the transfer window closes.
De Zerbi Adopts ‘Shark’ Mentality in Transfer Market
Speaking about Tottenham’s transfer strategy, De Zerbi described his relentless pursuit of transfer targets, insisting he becomes unstoppable once he identifies a player he wants.
“When I want one player in the transfer market, I become like a shark. There is no chance to say no,” he told Football London.
Although Tottenham have already spent heavily, De Zerbi believes the club’s rebuilding project is only around 60 percent complete.
“The transfer market is definitely not finished. We have completed about 60 per cent of our project, and now we have another surprise coming,” he added.
Spurs Continue Search for Attacking Reinforcements
Tottenham are expected to focus on strengthening their attack, with Manchester City winger Savinho reportedly among the club’s leading targets.
His potential arrival would add further quality to an attacking department that has already been boosted by the signing of Mateus Fernandes in an £85 million deal.
De Zerbi explained that his recruitment strategy centres on finding wide players who complement his tactical system, particularly the role of attacking full-backs.
The Spurs boss praised his defensive options, describing Pedro Porro as the best right-back in the world while also highlighting the importance of Destiny Udogie, Andy Robertson and Djed Spence.
According to De Zerbi, the qualities of his full-backs influence the type of winger the club looks to sign.
When asked whether another deal was close, he remained optimistic but stopped short of offering a timeline.
“I hope so, but our business is definitely not finished.”
Romero Could Leave North London
While Tottenham continue to pursue new arrivals, the club may also lose one of its most experienced players.
De Zerbi confirmed he is prepared to respect captain Cristian Romero’s desire to leave, with the Argentina international strongly linked with a move to Serie A side Inter Milan.
The Tottenham manager praised Romero’s professionalism throughout the season and dismissed speculation that the defender had prioritised preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup over his club commitments.
De Zerbi revealed that he had promised players who gave everything for the team that he would support their ambitions if they later wished to move on.
He also insisted Romero remained fully committed whenever selected and described the defender as one of the finest centre-backs in world football.
With the transfer window still open, Tottenham are expected to remain one of the Premier League’s busiest clubs as De Zerbi continues reshaping the squad ahead of the new season.
