Police Seize 789 Vehicles in Crackdown on Illegal Sirens and Strobe Lights in Western Region
2-day enforcement exercise in Sekondi-Takoradi and Tarkwa targets unauthorised vehicle modifications
The Ghana Police Service has intensified enforcement against the unauthorised use of sirens, strobe lights, beacon lights and other improper vehicle modifications in the Western and Western Central Regions.
A two-day joint enforcement and public sensitisation exercise was conducted from 17th to 18th July 2026 in Sekondi-Takoradi and Tarkwa by the National Police Headquarters, the Western Regional MTTD, and the Western Central Regional MTTD.
789 Vehicles Intercepted
According to the Police, a total of 789 vehicles were intercepted during the operation.
Of these:
– 57 vehicles were fitted with unauthorised sirens
– 732 vehicles were fitted with unauthorised strobe lights and improvised lamps
The unauthorised accessories were removed and seized. Offending drivers were educated on the *Road Traffic Regulations* and issued warning letters.
Public Education Component
Beyond enforcement, the exercise also featured extensive public education through *radio engagements and media outreach* to promote compliance with road traffic laws.
The Police said the sensitisation was aimed at ensuring drivers and vehicle owners understand the dangers and legal implications of using unauthorised emergency signals and modified lights.
More Exercises Coming
The Ghana Police Service has assured the publisimilar enforcement and sensitisation exercises will continue across the country.
The objective, it said, is to improve road safety and ensure strict compliance with the law.
Motorists have been urged to remove all illegal sirens, strobes and beacon lights and to ensure their vehicles meet the standards set by the Road Traffic Regulations.
