Supreme Court @150: A Strong Judiciary Is Key to Ghana’s Democratic Future – Chief Justice

Ghana’s Chief Justice , Justice Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has emphasised the importance of preserving Ghana’s justice system through stronger collaboration between traditional authorities, state institutions, and the security services to uphold the rule of law and strengthen democratic governance.

Speaking at the Supreme Court @150 Anniversary Lecture Series held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie said justice is not only about court judgments but also about ensuring fairness, protecting rights, and maintaining public confidence in the country’s legal system.

He noted that the Judiciary remains a vital pillar in safeguarding peace, stability, and national development.

The Chief Justice further stressed the need for the Judiciary to embrace technology and innovation to enhance the efficient administration of justice while preserving the country’s legal traditions and constitutional values. He said continuous reforms would improve access to justice and strengthen the credibility of the courts.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie called on traditional leaders, public institutions, security agencies, and citizens to play their respective roles in protecting the rule of law and supporting the work of the Judiciary. He noted that a strong, independent, and trusted Judiciary is essential to Ghana’s democratic progress and sustainable development.
