Cases meant for District and Circuit Courts are clogging High courts – Dr. Owusu Dapaa

Legal practitioner Dr. Justice Owusu Dapaa has expressed concern over the growing congestion of cases at the High Courts, attributing the situation to the practice of filing matters that should ordinarily be handled by lower courts.

Speaking on Kessben FM, Dr. Owusu Dapaa stated that many cases meant for the District and Circuit Courts are instead being brought before the High Court, creating an unnecessary backlog.

According to him, the High Court should focus on cases within its jurisdiction, while District and Circuit Courts handle matters assigned to them under the law. He noted that ensuring cases are filed at the appropriate courts would help reduce delays and improve the efficiency of Ghana’s justice delivery system.

Dr. Owusu Dapaa urged stakeholders in the justice sector to adhere to the proper judicial processes to help ease the congestion at the High Courts and ensure faster resolution of cases.
