Ashanti Rural Community Bank Directors Association Chairman, Dr Emmanuel Obeng, commends AI training for banking leaders

The Chairman of the Ashanti Rural and Community Bank Directors Association, Dr. Emmanuel Obeng, has emphasized the growing significance of artificial intelligence (AI) in transforming Ghana’s banking sector following a training programme for directors held at the NODA Hotel.
Speaking to Kessben Digital after the Artificial Intelligence & Artificial Fluency Training organized by the Financial Inclusion Advocacy Centre (FIAC), Dr. Obeng described the programme as both timely and essential for the leadership of Rural and Community Banks.
“We appreciate the importance and growing role of artificial intelligence in today’s banking industry,” he said. “As directors, we must equip ourselves with the knowledge and skills to understand these emerging technologies so that we can provide effective leadership and position our banks to meet the changing needs of customers.”
Dr. Obeng praised the Financial Inclusion Advocacy Centre for organizing the capacity-building workshop, noting that it had enhanced participants’ understanding of AI, digital innovation, and the future of banking.
He added that embracing artificial intelligence would help Rural and Community Banks improve operational efficiency, strengthen governance, enhance customer service, and expand financial inclusion, particularly in underserved communities.
The training brought together directors from several Rural and Community Banks across the Ashanti Region and forms part of ongoing efforts to prepare banking leaders for the opportunities and challenges presented by digital transformation in Ghana’s financial sector.
