President Mahama Launches Tema Integrated Industrial Park to Accelerate Ghana’s Industrial Transformation

The President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, has cut the sod for the construction of the Tema Integrated Industrial Park (TIIP), a flagship project expected to significantly boost Ghana’s industrialisation drive and strengthen its position as a regional manufacturing and export hub.

The ceremony, held in Tema on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, marked the beginning of what government describes as a transformative public-private partnership aimed at expanding industrial capacity, creating jobs, and integrating local businesses into regional and global value chains.

President Mahama emphasized that industrialisation is now an economic necessity rather than a policy option.

He called on project partners to commit fully to delivering a modern industrial enclave that reflects the long-term vision of Ghana’s founding leader, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who first developed the Tema industrial zone as a cornerstone of national development.

The TIIP will serve as a major engine for manufacturing, processing, logistics, and export growth. Strategically located just seven kilometres from the Tema Port, the 83.5-hectare industrial park is expected to strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, described the project as a strategic investment that will position Ghana as a leading industrial hub in West Africa.

She noted that the park will drive value addition, promote import substitution, and expand export-oriented manufacturing and further revealed that Cabinet has approved four key sector-specific policies to support the industrial park’s development and attract investors. These include the Ghana Textiles and Garments Manufacturing Policy, the Ghana Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Policy, the Automotive Components Manufacturing Policy, and the National Agribusiness Policy (2026–2036).

The hon. minister said these frameworks are designed to provide regulatory certainty, attract anchor industries, and create a sustainable ecosystem for industrial growth and job creation.

Developed through a partnership between TDC Ghana Limited, the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), and ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms, the TIIP is projected to create more than 4,000 direct jobs while generating significant downstream economic activity across multiple sectors.

Hon. Minister Ofosu-Adjare reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of the project and to maximise its long-term impact on Ghana’s industrial development agenda.
