Cost of Living Is Driving Voters’ Decisions — Poll Shows NPP Leading NDC

A new national opinion poll has suggested that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) currently enjoys a lead over the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), as concerns over the rising cost of living continue to influence public sentiment.
According to the pollster, Dr. Hayford Ayarikwa, after they sampled 6,483 respondents across the country, the NPP secured 49 percent support, while the NDC garnered 39 percent. Eight percent of respondents remained undecided.
The survey notes that although Ghanaians gave the NDC a four-year mandate to govern, many citizens have begun assessing the performance of government appointees just months into the administration.
Researchers behind the poll argued that some appointees appear more focused on positioning themselves for future political opportunities than on delivering on the government’s immediate mandate.
The report further indicated that while key macroeconomic indicators may show signs of improvement, many ordinary citizens are yet to feel the benefits in their daily lives.
“Other fundamental factors in the cost of living have risen, and that is what is informing the decisions of ordinary citizens,” the report stated.
The findings suggest that bread-and-butter issues remain a major determinant of public opinion, with voters increasingly judging political leaders based on their ability to improve living conditions and reduce economic hardships.
