Philanthropist Fiifi Cann Donates 50 Dual Desks to Asikuma Odoben Brakwa Education Directorate
DCE Olivia Bentil says donation will reduce pressure on desk shortage as some pupils still sit on the floor to learn
Philanthropist Mr. Fiifi Cann has donated 50 dual desks to the Breman Asikuma Education Directorate to help address furniture shortages in basic schools across the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District.
The desks were presented during Mr. Cann’s birthday celebration and will be distributed to various schools in the district where students currently lack proper seating.
Speaking to Kekyireba Kofi Obeng, Mr. Cann said the timing was deliberate given the challenges faced by learners in the area.
“There is time for everything, but this is the time that I have to support the schools in Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District when it comes to desk issues because there are some schools in the district where students sit on the floor to write,” he stated.
He challenged the notion that development is solely government’s responsibility: “Most people have a mindset that the government is entitled to do all developmental projects in the country, but that is totally wrong. The little that we are having as individuals can be used to help our various districts.”
Mr. Cann said he decided to support the education system as part of his birthday commitment to give back to his community.
DCE Commends Support for Education
District Chief Executive for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, Hon. Olivia Bentil, expressed appreciation for the donation and its impact on teaching and learning.
She said the 50 dual desks “will help them and will reduce the pressure on desk issues that they are facing in the district.”
Hon. Bentil added: “We have seen the support that he is doing for the district and we are hoping to see more in years to come.”
The Education Directorate is expected to allocate the desks to schools with the most urgent need as part of ongoing efforts to improve learning conditions for basic school pupils.
