Engineer Kofi Arthur’s Eid Al-Adha Message Spotlights Vision for NDC Western Region Chairmanship

Engineer George Kofi Arthur, former MP for Amenfi Central and leading contender for Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has used his Eid Al-Adha message to call for unity, sacrifice and people-first politics across Ghana.
In a statement released Wednesday, Arthur congratulated Muslims in the Western Region, Ghana and worldwide on marking Eid Al-Adha. He described the festival as a reminder of faith, sacrifice and service to community.
“Eid Al-Adha commemorates the spirit of sacrifice and obedience that Prophet Ibrahim demonstrated. It is a moment to reflect on the values of compassion, humility and solidarity that should guide us in public life and in our daily interactions,” Arthur said. “To our Muslim brothers and sisters in the Western Region, across Ghana and globally, I wish you peace, joy and renewed strength during this blessed festival.”
He linked the spirit of Eid Al-Adha to the NDC’s commitment to social justice and inclusive development.
“At a time when many families are facing economic pressure, the values of sharing, caring for one another and looking out for the vulnerable are more important than ever,” he said. “Let us carry the lessons of this season into our daily lives and politics by putting people first.”
Arthur’s message comes as he consolidates support for the NDC’s internal elections. He has emerged as a leading candidate for Western Regional Chairman, drawing on more than a decade of parliamentary service, strong party credentials and professional experience in engineering, education and governance.
Born on February 24, 1969, at Wassa Agona Amenfi, Arthur represented Amenfi Central in Parliament from 2005 to 2017. Over three consecutive terms he built a reputation for committee leadership, policy depth and institutional discipline.
His academic background blends education, engineering and governance. He holds a Diploma in Education with Distinction in Educational Technology from the Presbyterian College of Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology with a focus on Electronics and Automotive from the University of Education, Winneba, and a Master’s Degree in Governance and Leadership from GIMPA. Supporters say this multidisciplinary training shapes his technocratic approach to leadership and administration.
Professionally, Arthur has worked as a teacher, engineer, electronics specialist and construction professional. He has served at Toyota Ghana, Anyasco Electronics and Afrangua Construction Limited, contributing to major road infrastructure projects across the Western and Western North Regions. That experience, he argues, gives him first-hand knowledge of the region’s development challenges in infrastructure, employment and industrial growth.
Within the NDC, Arthur’s party record spans grassroots organizing and national engagement. He served as General Secretary of the Mpohor Constituency and as a member of the party’s National Communications Team. He also held several leadership roles during his student and professional life.
His parliamentary committee work covered Roads and Transport, Public Accounts, Defence and Interior, Agriculture, Housing, Employment and Social Welfare. Notably, he chaired the Defence and Interior Committee and served as Deputy Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee for over a decade.
Party analysts point to this combination of legislative experience, administrative competence and regional development exposure as key qualifications for the Western Regional Chairmanship. Supporters say his understanding of party structures and ability to coordinate across constituencies and stakeholder groups positions him to strengthen cohesion and improve electoral performance in the region.
The Eid Al-Adha message has circulated widely on social media, with party supporters and community leaders in Takoradi, Sekondi and Tarkwa sharing well wishes.
As the NDC prepares for internal contests ahead of future national elections, Arthur’s profile reflects a candidate grounded in experience. He says his campaign will focus on strengthening party organization, empowering youth and women, and building stronger links between the party and religious and traditional leaders.
“Leadership is about service,” Arthur said in closing. “The lessons of Eid Al-Adha remind us that true leadership means sacrifice for the common good. That is the kind of leadership I want to bring to the Western Region.”
Eid Al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is observed by Muslims worldwide with prayers, acts of charity and the symbolic sacrifice of livestock. Across Ghana, mosques held special prayers Wednesday morning, followed by communal meals and visits to family and friends.
