NPP appoints Dr. Frank Bannor as Finance & Economy Sector Committee Spokesperson

Dr. Frank Bannor, a Development Economist and Director at the Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP), has been appointed as a spokesperson for the Finance and Economy Sector Committee of the New Patriotic Party following the constitution of the party’s Standing and Sector Committees by its National Executive Committee and National Council.

The appointment forms part of a broader reorganisation by the party aimed at strengthening its internal structures and policy coordination ahead of future political and governance engagements.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the National Executive Committee and the National Council held on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

A press statement announcing the constitution of the committees was signed and released by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Friday, May 8, 2026.

According to the statement, the Standing Committees were constituted pursuant to Article 10(2)(6) of the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party, while the Sector Committees were constituted in accordance with Articles 10(3)(8) and 14(5) of the Party Constitution.

Appointees under the Finance & Economy

Under the Finance and Economy Sector Committee, former Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, and economist Dr. Steve Opata were appointed as Co Chairs of the committee.

Dr. Bannor and Issah Fuseini were named as spokespersons, while Hamida Nuhu was appointed Secretary to the committee.

The Finance and Economy Sector Committee is expected to play a central role in shaping and communicating the party’s economic policies, fiscal direction and broader national economic alternatives as the NPP continues to reposition itself within the country’s political landscape.

Profile of Dr. Bannor

Dr. Bannor is a Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and serves as Director at the Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP). He is also a Research Associate at the Public and Environmental Economics Research Centre (PEERC), School of Economics, University of Johannesburg.

Dr. Bannor holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He also earned a Master of Science in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Statistics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. In addition, he completed Ph.D.-level (non-degree) training in Impact Assessment and Climate Economics at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Norway. He further holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Statistics from Accra Technical University, Ghana.

He has obtained several professional and academic certifications, including a Certificate in Natural Resources and Development from the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) and ETH Zurich, Switzerland; a Certificate in Land Economics and Governance from the University of Cape Town, South Africa; and a Certificate in PhD-level Training in Stated Preference Methods and Experimental Economics from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Additionally, he holds a Diploma in Environmental Impact Assessment in the Oil and
Gas Industry and Compliance Monitoring from the Norwegian Climate and Pollution Agency and the Norwegian Directorate for Nature Management. He has also earned certificates in Mineral Policy and Contract Negotiations, jointly awarded by the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) and the University of Johannesburg, as well as in Land Policy in a Development Context from IDEP, Dakar, Senegal.

Dr. Bannor has over fifteen (15) years of professional experience spanning academia and policy research. His career includes lecturing at internationally recognized universities and holding senior roles in leading policy think tanks. Notable positions he has held include Lecturer in Monetary and Public Economics at the University of Johannesburg; Lecturer in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics at IIE-MSA (formerly Monash University), Johannesburg; Program Manager for Climate Change at PEERC; Director of Policy Research and Training at CDS-Africa; and Head of Research at the Danquah Institute (DI). He also served as Lecturer and Head of the MBA Programme at Accra Business School, Ghana.
