Sam George Assures Afienya Residents of Fair Compensation Over Road Demolitions*

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has assured residents affected by the ongoing road construction at Afienya that the Mahama-led government will pay compensation where it is justified.

The MP gave the assurance during a visit to the community on Monday, accompanied by the District Chief Executive for the area, Raphael Uriel Nartey, and NDC Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Issah Vanguard.

The visit comes in the wake of demolitions linked to two major road projects under the government’s *#BigPushAgenda* — the Dawhenya–Afienya–Dodowa Road and the Ashaiman–Asikuma Junction Road. The two roads intersect at the Afienya junction, and construction works have resulted in the demolition of several shops and residential structures.

In a post on his social media handles, Sam George said engagements with affected residents began in February to formally notify them of the impending demolitions.

“I needed to visit the affected to reassure them that the Government was acting in their best interests and that, where compensation was justified, it would be paid,” he wrote.

Mr. George stressed that while infrastructure development is necessary for national progress, it must be carried out responsibly and with fairness to communities impacted by the works.

“Once again, it was a good engagement even under the circumstances, but as always, I have maintained that the job dey the ground. Afienya always has a special place in my heart!” he added.

The #BigPushAgenda is one of the Mahama administration’s flagship infrastructure programmes aimed at upgrading key road networks across the country to boost trade, mobility, and economic activity.

Some affected residents have raised concerns over loss of livelihoods and property since the demolitions began. The MP’s visit is seen as an effort to ease tensions and restore confidence in the government’s handling of the project.

The District Chief Executive also pledged the Assembly’s support in ensuring that affected persons are properly documented and considered for compensation where applicable.
