NDC Gov’t is taking energy levy (D Levy) but we are still experiencing Dumsor – Listener on Kessben FM Morning show laments

A texter on a popular Kessben FM morning show in Kumasi has voiced frustration over ongoing power outages despite the government’s continued collection of the Energy Sector Levy, commonly known as the “D-Levy.”

The listener questioned why Ghanaians are still experiencing intermittent electricity supply, commonly referred to as “dumsor”, while paying additional charges intended to stabilize the energy sector.

According to the caller, the levy was introduced with the promise of addressing power generation shortfalls and settling debts within the energy value chain. However, the persistence of outages has raised concerns about the effectiveness and transparency of the policy.

“Why are we still paying the D-Levy when we are sitting in darkness?” the texter asked, echoing sentiments shared by many residents and businesses affected by the inconsistent power supply.

Government officials have yet to respond directly to the concerns raised on the program, but energy analysts say resolving the issue will require a combination of improved infrastructure, financial discipline, and policy consistency.
