NDC Strengthening Grassroots, Dismisses NPP Press Conferences as Ineffective – Mahdi Jibril
Story: Maurice Otoo

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Elections and IT, Mahdi Jibril, has downplayed the impact of press conferences organized by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the past eight years, describing them as unproductive and lacking substance.
According to him, the NPP’s engagements with the media, including recent briefings on issues surrounding the Bank of Ghana and Goldbod, have largely been repetitive and filled with what he termed as “big English” without yielding meaningful outcomes.
Speaking on the party’s readiness ahead of the next general elections at Kessben TV’s Maakye show, Jibril emphasized that the NDC is currently focused on strengthening its internal structures, particularly at the grassroots level, to build a more formidable and united front.
He noted that neglecting the base of a political party while concentrating only on its leadership hierarchy could have damaging consequences.
“If you don’t find time to organize the base of your party but focus only on the hierarchy, you will cause huge damage to the party,” he stated.
Jibril disclosed that the NDC has spent the past seven months working intensively to reorganize its grassroots through various platforms aimed at promoting unity and efficiency within the party.
He revealed that the party is managing a vast structure comprising over 40,646 grassroots branches, about 368,000 executives, and more than two million registered members, excluding sympathizers.
As part of efforts to ensure transparency and fairness, he indicated that the party has commenced an online registration process for its members. The register, he said, has been validated, with the next phase focusing on selecting individuals to manage constituency affairs.
“All payments have been structured to be done online, and we have provided a level playing field for all eligible candidates with constant system monitoring,” Jibril added.
He further encouraged party members interested in contesting for positions to access nomination forms through the party’s official online portal.
The NDC’s renewed focus on grassroots mobilization is seen as a strategic move to consolidate its base and enhance its competitiveness in the upcoming elections.
