Asuogyaman DCE Assures Public After Fire Outbreak at Akosombo Sub-Station Power House

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asuogyaman, Hon. Godwin Bobobee, has assured residents that the Akosombo Dam remains safe following a fire outbreak at the Akosombo Sub-Station Power House.
Speaking of the incident with Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kessben Maakye show, Hon. Bobobee stated that the dam is secure and there is no immediate threat to its operations or surrounding communities.
According to him, the affected facility was engulfed in flames for nearly four hours, with thick smoke making access to the exact source of the fire extremely difficult.
“The place caught fire and for four hours the area was heavily covered in smoke,” he explained.
Hon. Bobobee said he was alerted about the incident and quickly moved to the scene, where he coordinated emergency efforts by mobilizing firefighters from nearby Somanya, Akosombo, and surrounding areas.
He revealed that the heavy smoke hindered rescue operations, making it difficult for personnel to reach the source of the blaze in time.
To support emergency access, the DCE said he ordered excavators to break sections of the affected building’s walls, enabling the Ghana National Fire Service to gain entry and tackle the “naked fire.”
Hon. Bobobee further expressed concern over what he described as a lack of visible leadership and adherence to protocol at the site before his intervention.
“I did not see those in charge following any clear protocol in dealing with the situation until I stepped in,” he noted.
Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations into the cause of the fire, while efforts continue to assess the extent of damage at the facility.
