BREAKING: Govt opens competitive bidding for Damang Gold Mine after Gold Fields contract ends

Government has officially opened a competitive tender process for the operation of the Damang Gold Mine following the expiration of the contract held by Gold Fields.
This was disclosed by Mahmoud Kabore, spokesperson for the Minister of Natural Resources, during an interview on Kessben TV with host KOD.
According to Kabore, the move is aimed at ensuring transparency and attracting capable investors to take over operations at the mine. He explained that opening the process to competitive bidding will allow the government to secure the best possible value and expertise for the continued development of the asset.
“The decision is part of government’s broader strategy to maximize benefits from the country’s natural resources while maintaining accountability,” he noted.
The Damang mine, one of Ghana’s key gold-producing sites, has played a significant role in the country’s mining sector over the years. With the contract now ended, the new tender process is expected to draw interest from both local and international mining firms.
Industry observers say the outcome of the bidding process could have important implications for Ghana’s mining landscape, particularly in terms of investment, employment, and revenue generation.
