Ghana EXIM Bank pledges support for agrotech innovation and export growth

The inaugural Agrotech Fair 2026 has officially opened, offering a dynamic platform for Ghanaian innovators, farmers, and agribusinesses to showcase practical agricultural technologies. The event, themed “Transforming Agribusiness through Local Innovation and Technology,” aims to strengthen agribusinesses, drive value addition, and position Ghanaian products competitively in regional and global markets.
At the launch, Hon. Sylvester Adinam Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana ExIm Bank, pledged the institution’s support for the country’s agricultural transformation.
“This fair is a crucial platform to promote agrotech innovation, encourage investment in agriculture, and advance Ghana’s economic transformation through agro-processing, value addition, and exports,” Mensah said.
He emphasized the importance of connecting farmers, innovators, investors, and policymakers. “Agrotech Fair 2026 allows ideas and prototypes to be turned into profitable business partnerships, bridging the gap between innovation and commercial success,” he explained.
Highlighting the role of technology in agriculture, Mensah said, “Agricultural technologies help farmers increase productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, improve product quality, and increase incomes. They also support processing, add value to local raw materials, and enable exporters to meet global standards.”
On youth involvement, Mensah noted that technology makes agriculture more attractive to young people. “The sector is no longer only about farming; it involves engineering, innovation, logistics, data, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship. Young people can now see agriculture as a pathway to business and innovation,” he stated.
Sustainability and inclusivity were also underscored as core goals. “A strong agricultural future must prioritize efficient resource use, reduced waste, climate-conscious practices, and resilient systems. Women, youth, and small enterprises must be fully part of this transformation,” Mensah added.
He reaffirmed Ghana ExIm Bank’s commitment to supporting the sector. “Our mandate extends beyond the farm gate. We support processing, packaging, storage, branding, distribution, and export. We are committed to building a strong, export-led economy by promoting value addition and supporting productive sectors,” he said.
Mensah concluded by calling for collaboration among government, financial institutions, industry, researchers, and innovators. “Let us use this platform to build solutions, deepen partnerships, and invest in a future where Ghanaian agriculture is modern, sustainable, and globally competitive,” he said.
The Agrotech Fair 2026 is expected to leave a lasting impact by inspiring innovation, strengthening agribusinesses, and accelerating Ghana’s agricultural export potential.
