Traders Attacked in Burkina Faso: Bawumia Calls for Regional Security Cooperation

Several Ghanaian traders have been killed, and others injured, in a terrorist attack in Burkina Faso, prompting condemnation and calls for stronger regional security measures.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressed deep shock at the incident. “I have received with shock the news of some Ghanaian traders being killed, as well as several others injured in a terrorist attack in Burkina Faso,” he said.

Extending condolences, he added, “On behalf of the NPP, Samira, and myself, I express our deepest sympathies to the families of the bereaved and our best wishes to those injured for a speedy recovery.”

Dr. Bawumia urged the government to strengthen security collaboration with neighboring countries. “Ghanaian traders must not be left to such peril as they go about their trade. I urge the government to deepen intelligence collaboration with all our neighbors to ensure Ghanaians are protected wherever they find themselves,” he said.

He also called for reinforcing national efforts to combat violent extremism. “Our well-established framework for preventing and countering violent extremism and terrorism should be strengthened to prevent such tragedies in the future,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

The attack underscores the persistent threats faced by Ghanaians operating in the region and highlights the urgent need for coordinated security measures across West Africa.
