Food Abundance Under President Mahama: Last year, a bag of cassava was GHC400, today it’s only GHC100 & people are not buying – Farmers appeal to Mahama

Farmers in Fosu have attributed the sharp drop in cassava prices to what they describe as food abundance under President John Dramani Mahama, but say the situation is now hurting their livelihoods.
According to the farmers, a bag of cassava that sold for about 400 Ghana cedis last year is currently selling for as low as 100 Ghana cedis, with little to no demand from buyers.
The farmers explained that while increased production and availability of food is positive for consumers, it has created serious challenges for producers. They say the market is now flooded with cassava, leading to low prices and unsold produce, despite the high cost of farming inputs and transportation.
In their appeal to President Mahama, the farmers called for urgent government intervention to support cassava farmers through better storage facilities, processing factories, and access to wider markets. They stressed that without such support, many farmers may be forced to reduce production or abandon farming altogether.
