NAIMOS Operations Yield Positive Results: Polluted River Waters Turn Clear

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) is celebrating a major victory as its operations in the Eastern Region begin to show promising results. The once dark brown waters of a river near Akyem Wenchi, which flows into the Birim River, have turned clear, indicating a significant reduction in pollution caused by illegal mining activities.
According to sources, the strong presence of NAIMOS in the area, coupled with several arrests and seizures of equipment from illegal miners, has been instrumental in bringing about this change. Just last week, NAIMOS stormed the Eastern Region, conducting a clampdown on illegal miners and seizing various equipment, including chanfangs, fuel drums, and pumping machines.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has been vocal about its commitment to tackling the menace of illegal mining, which it has dubbed “environmental terrorism.” The Ministry has vowed to continue its efforts to chase out illegal miners and will provide regular updates on the progress made through its weekly press briefings.
