Opposition members must be more careful, In Ghana you might not get justice if harmed by ruling party members – Wofa Kofi warns

Kessben TV’s Wofa Kofi Appiah has cautioned citizens, particularly those aligned with opposition parties, to be extremely vigilant during the nation’s increasingly tense political climate.

Speaking on Kessben FM’s Maakye on Tuesday Wofa Kofi Appiah highlighted a growing trend of political violence and the apparent lack of accountability when such violence is perpetrated by supporters of the ruling government.

“If you are in opposition, be careful and look after your life,” he warned. “Because if you are hurt during political violence by members of the ruling Government, the case would not go anywhere and you won’t get justice.”

Ghana, often celebrated as one of Africa’s most stable democracies, is no stranger to electoral tensions. While largely peaceful, some election cycles have been marred by violence, intimidation, and the tragic loss of life.

The 2020 general elections, for instance, saw at some deaths and dozens of injuries resulting from confrontations between supporters of rival parties and security forces.

Civil society groups and human rights organizations have repeatedly called for independent investigations and the prosecution of perpetrators, but justice has often been slow or nonexistent.

Wofa Kofi Appiah’s remarks seem to underscore what these groups have long criticized: a selective application of justice that leaves opposition supporters especially vulnerable.
