Even electricity you cannot give for 24 hours, how much more a 24-hour economy? – NPP’s Hamisu Ibrahim

NPP communicator Hamisu Ibrahim has taken a swipe at the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) much-touted 24-hour economy policy, branding it as an unrealistic political slogan with no enabling environment to back it.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Ibrahim questioned the feasibility of the NDC’s flagship economic proposal, stating bluntly. “Where is the enabling environment for a 24-hour economy? Even electricityGhana can’t have that for 24 hours.” he said.
Ibrahim’s central criticism focused on Ghana’s longstanding power reliability issues. According to him, a functioning 24-hour economy cannot exist in a country where electricity supply remains inconsistent and industries face regular outages.
The 24-hour economy proposal, first announced by former President John Dramani Mahama during his campaign for the 2024 elections, promises to transform Ghana’s economy by encouraging businesses, factories, and essential services to operate in three shifts across a 24-hour period. The NDC argues it will create jobs, increase productivity, and support a vibrant service and industrial sector.
However, critics like Ibrahim say the policy lacks a detailed implementation plan, financial model, and logistical support.
