Communication Minister Announces 10% Increase In Data Price Values Effective July 1st

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has announced significant improvements in data bundle values across all mobile networks in Ghana, effective July 1, 2025.

This move, he said aims to address longstanding quality and pricing concerns in the telecommunications sector.

Hon. Samuel Nartey George was speaking at a press conference held today at the Ministry’s Conference Room

Key Changes:

Airtel Tigo Ghana: 10% increase in all data bundles, with the GHC400 bundle rising from 195GB to 236GB.
Telecel Ghana: 10% increase in all data bundles, with the GHC400 bundle increasing from 190GB to 250GB.
MTN Ghana: 15% increase in all data bundles, with the restoration of the GHC399 Social Media bundle offering 214GB, replacing the GH350 Flexi bundle that offered 92GB.

Additional Measures:

Investment in Networks: The three major telcos have pledged to collectively invest approximately $150 million in their networks by the end of 2025 to enhance network quality.
Quality of Service Assessment: The National Communications Authority (NCA) will conduct a rigorous quality of service assessment in the final quarter of 2025, with defaulting operators facing sanctions.
Billing Integrity Tests: The NCA will conduct quarterly billing integrity tests to ensure accurate billing practices.

Future Expectations:

Tax Rationalization: Further price drops are expected when the Finance Ministry takes action on tax handles in the sector.
-Telecom Tariff: The Ministry is pursuing a telecom tariff that could lead to additional price reductions.

In attendance were the CEOs of the Telcos, Chief Director and Directors of the Ministry as well as Agency Heads.
