That’s what they do, If they realize they are safe from relegation, (It’s Seylawa for them) they begin to sell their games – Andy Kerm bares the hard-truth in Ghana Football

Outspoken sports pundit of Kessben FM Andy Kerm has stirred up major controversy after making bold claims regarding the integrity of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

Speaking during a live panel discussion on the station’s flagship sports show Midfield Action, the pundit alleged that some clubs in the GPL begin to “sell matches” or play games based on mutual convenience once they are mathematically safe from relegation.

According to Andy Kerm, several mid-table clubs relax their competitive spirit toward the final weeks of the season. Once their league status is secured and there’s no realistic chance of winning the title, these clubs allegedly begin to engage in underhanded deals, including match-fixing and “soft-pedaling” games,  for either financial gain or to favor certain allies.

These allegations, though not new, cast a fresh shadow over the credibility of the GPL, especially as the season nears its conclusion. Fans have long questioned some end-of-season results, where struggling teams suddenly win convincingly against safe, mid-table sides.

The pundit emphasized that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) must act decisively to address this trend, calling for greater transparency, stronger match-monitoring mechanisms, and harsh penalties for clubs and officials found guilty of manipulating matches.

This follows an obvious result between Berekum Chelsea and Bibiani Gold Stars game which ended 2-3 in favor of the away side. While the Ghana Football Association has yet to officially respond to the claims, reactions from the public and on social media have been mixed.

If proven true, the claims could significantly undermine the credibility of the GPL and impact both sponsorships and fan trust. Stakeholders are now calling for whistleblower protection laws in sports, alongside investments in independent match analysis and betting pattern monitoring.

Andy Kerm’s allegations are a wake-up call to football authorities in Ghana. To restore faith in the local game, the GFA must not only investigate such claims but also ensure the league remains a fair, competitive, and transparent environment for all clubs, regardless of their position on the table.
