Kotoko Legend, Hamza Mohammed advocates for “Local Coach” Abdul Karim Zito to be appointed as substantive coach of Asante Kotoko

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder and current Coach of the U-19 National football team, Hamza Mohammed, has publicly endorsed Abdul Karim Zito for the role of substantive head coach at Asante Kotoko.

Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM Hamza Mohammed expressed his belief that Zito’s appointment would be a positive step for the club.

Zito, a former player and coach of Kotoko, was appointed as the club’s interim head coach and technical director in April 2025, following the dismissal of Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum. The decision was made after a series of disappointing results that saw the team go four matches without a win, leading to a drop to fourth place in the league standings

In his new role, Zito has emphasized his philosophy of integrating beauty into goal-scoring and prioritizing possession-based football. He believes that controlling possession is key to both attacking and defending effectively .

Hamza Mohammed’s endorsement of Zito highlights the respect and confidence that former players have in Zito’s capabilities. His support could influence the club’s decision-making process as they look to solidify their technical leadership for the future.
