Let TDC and State Housing Complete Seglemi Project – Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, Chairman of Parliament’s Works and Housing Committee

Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, Chairman of Parliament’s Works and Housing Committee, has called on the government to hand over the abandoned Seglemi Housing Project to the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) and the State Housing Company for immediate completion.
Speaking on the Maakye show on Kessben TV, Hon. Asamoah expressed deep concern over the current state of the Seglemi project, stressing that no progress has been made despite the dire housing deficit in the country.
The committee chairman proposed that, in addition to TDC and State Housing, private contractors with the capacity and resources could also be brought in to complete the stalled project.
He further condemned the alleged theft of construction materials from the site and demanded accountability.
“Somebody must be held responsible for the loss of materials since the area was under the care of the police. If the Ministry or the security agencies were negligent, they must answer for it,” he emphasized.
Hon. Asamoah noted that the lack of sustained government funding often leads to the abandonment of crucial infrastructure projects like Seglemi. However, he believes that institutions like TDC and State Housing are well-positioned to raise funds and manage the completion of the work.
“Politics is the main reason why Seglemi has been stalled. It was a good initiative, but partisan interests have slowed it down,” he added.
He concluded with a strong statement on the poor management of government property, warning that such waste of public resources must no longer be tolerated. “The way government property is handled in this country is unacceptable. We must change this attitude if we are serious about development,” he stressed.
