Dollar Depreciation Due to Prudent Economic Measures – NDC’s Hussein Ibrahim

A member of the NDC Ashanti Regional Communication Team, Hussein Ibrahim, asserted that the recent depreciation of the US dollar against the Ghanaian cedi should not be attributed to external factors.

He emphasized that the improvement in the strength of the cedi is largely due to prudent economic measures instituted by the NDC’s economic team, led by Sammy Gyamfi.

He challenged the popular notion that global factors such as trade tensions involving the United States are behind the dollar’s decline. “If the depreciation of the dollar was truly due to international trade wars, then why are other countries not seeing similar benefits?” he questioned.

Speaking on the Kessben Maakye Show on Friday, Mr. Ibrahim further highlighted the role of local policy interventions and compared the situation to the Mahama administration, claiming that similar fiscal discipline was implemented before the NDC left office in 2016. He argued that the strong economy inherited by the NPP administration was later mismanaged.

Backing his claims, he referenced a World Bank announcement during the NDC’s tenure, which projected an 8.4% growth in Ghana’s GDP, reinforcing the argument that sound economic management leads to a stable and growing economy.

He concluded by calling for recognition of the NDC’s role in building a resilient economy.
