NDC Communications Team Member Expresses Disappointment Over Dismissed Parliamentary Seat Petitions

NDC communications team member, Frank Otuo Acheampong voiced his disappointment concerning the NDC’s failed petition during an interview on Kessben’s Maakye show.
He acknowledged that the party had a strong case but admitted that internal missteps had cost them the opportunity to be victorious. He expressed concern that if the NDC continues to mishandle legal matters, it could lose credibility with its supporters.
He also cautioned that the party must take judicial and legal processes more seriously going forward, especially in view of the 2028 elections.
On April 28, 2025, the Kumasi High Court dismissed the NDC’S petitions, after they failed to comply with key procedures.
The party had challenged the results of three parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region; Obuasi East, Ahafo Ano North, and Ahafo Ano South West, following the 2024 general elections. The party raised concerns about some electoral irregularities and took legal action to contest the final results.
In December 2024, the Electoral Commission declared the NPP candidates namely, Patrick Boakye-Yiadom (Obuasi East), Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh (Ahafo Ano North), and Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah (Ahafo Ano South West), as winners in their constituencies after a recounting process mandated by the High Court. The NDC disputed these results, claiming that their candidates were the rightful winners.
In January 2025, the NDC filed petitions at the Kumasi High Court challenging the declared results. The party initially struggled to serve the sitting MPs with the legal documents, leading to a motion for substituted service, which the court granted. The NDC also accused the MPs of delaying the proceedings.
However, on April 28, 2025, the Kumasi High Court dismissed all three petitions. It ruled that the party failed to comply with key procedural requirements, specifically, not requesting for the determination of security for costs within 21 days after the election results were gazetted. The court upheld the EC’s declarations, allowing the NPP MPs to retain their seats.
