“Feed Ghana Program is Bigger Than Planting for Food and Jobs” – Bright Demordzi

The National Coordinator for the Feed Ghana Program at the Ministry of Agriculture, Hon. Bright Demordzi, has shed more light on the much-talked-about Feed Ghana initiative, making a bold claim that it is far broader and more transformational than the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative.

Speaking on Kessben TV’s Maakye show, the Coordinator explained that the Feed Ghana Program seeks to decentralize agriculture by establishing farm centers in every agriculturally active district. These centers, he noted, will be fully equipped with all necessary farming tools and resources to support both small- and large-scale farmers.

He stressed that Ghana already possesses rich, fertile lands and a robust human resource base. “We have the lands, we have the people. What’s left is proper structure and policy,” he stated, linking this to the country’s potential for massive economic transformation through agriculture.

Touching on food imports, Hon. Demordzi described Ghana’s current reliance on imported chicken, tomatoes, and other food items as alarming. “We’re spending too much importing things we can produce here in abundance,” he said.

He clarified that the popular Planting for Food and Jobs program is just a small component of Feed Ghana. “PFJ was more of an input subsidy – fertilizer and seeds at reduced rates. But Feed Ghana is the whole farm. It’s the ecosystem,” he emphasized.

The program will also introduce a buffer stock system to secure food reserves and will rely on smart farming, where science backs agriculture, including research into climate-resilient seeds and data-driven farming practices.
