Bawku Crisis: Dangerous remarks made by President Mahama about the Bawku crisis while in opposition are now bearing evil fruits – Lawyer Kwabena Boateng

Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu, speaking on Kessben FM’s Maakye, addressed the ongoing conflict in Bawku, expressing concern that certain statements made by President John Dramani Mahama during his time in opposition are now contributing to the current unrest in the region.

The Bawku conflict, situated in Ghana’s Upper East Region, is primarily rooted in a longstanding chieftaincy dispute between the Kusasi and Mamprusi ethnic groups. This disagreement has led to recurrent violence, resulting in numerous casualties and significant property damage. Despite various governmental and traditional efforts to mediate, a lasting resolution has remained elusive.

During his tenure as President and continuing into his time in opposition, John Dramani Mahama has made several public statements regarding the Bawku chieftaincy issue.

Lawyer Kwabena Boateng contends that some of Mahama’s previous remarks may have inadvertently exacerbated the situation.

While specific statements were not detailed, Boateng suggests that certain comments made during Mahama’s opposition tenure are now “bearing evil fruits,” implying that they have had negative repercussions contributing to the current crisis.

In response to the escalating tensions, the government has taken measures to restore peace.
