Atiwa East MP, Abena Osei-Asare, questions the impact of President Mahama’s advice on Black Stars’ success, Says fathers of the players had already advised them

Abena Osei-Asare, the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, has raised eyebrows over the recent praise for former President John Dramani Mahama’s involvement in the Black Stars’ victories over Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Osei-Asare questioned the significance of the “fatherly advice” Mahama reportedly gave to the players, suggesting that the fathers of the players themselves had already provided valuable guidance and support.
The Black Stars’ impressive wins in their qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar were hailed by many as a crucial step toward securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, following these victories, Mahama’s supporters, including several MPs and sports figures, have attributed part of the team’s success to the former president’s motivational input, which was said to include fatherly advice for the players.
Osei-Asare, however, expressed skepticism about the true impact of Mahama’s guidance on the Black Stars’ performance. “What fatherly advice did Mahama give for the Black Stars to win over Chad and Madagascar? The fathers of the players had already advised them,” Osei-Asare said on the floor of parliament.
Her remarks come in the wake of growing praise for Mahama’s support of the team. While many Ghanaians appreciate the encouragement and presence of national leaders, Osei-Asare emphasized that the Black Stars’ victories were the product of years of training, individual player effort, and team coordination—qualities that are developed over time, long before any external advice is given.
